FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Quick answers to the questions Irish learner drivers ask us most often.

Is IrishDrivingSchools.ie affiliated with the RSA?

No. We are an independent directory operated by KaalmoConnect Ltd. Our listings are compiled from the public RSA Register of Approved Driving Instructors.

Does it cost anything to find an instructor here?

No. Searching the directory and contacting an instructor is completely free. We never take a cut of lesson fees.

How many EDT lessons do I need?

All Category B learners must complete 12 one-hour EDT lessons with an ADI before they can apply for the driving test.

How much do driving lessons cost in Ireland?

Typically €35–€55 per hour for Category B EDT lessons. Pricing varies by county and instructor; many offer bundle discounts.

Can I take the driving test without finishing EDT?

No. The RSA will not allow you to sit the Category B test until all 12 EDT lessons are logged in your logbook.

How long does the driving test take?

About 40 minutes in total — including pre-drive checks, Rules of the Road questions and roughly 30 minutes of driving.

What's the difference between EDT and IBT?

EDT is for Category B (car) learners — 12 mandatory lessons. IBT is for motorcyclists — 16 hours of initial training across four modules before riding on public roads.

I'm an instructor — how do I claim or update my listing?

Email info@irishdrivingschools.ie from the email address on file with the RSA and we'll verify and update your profile.

Is my enquiry sent to multiple instructors?

No. When you contact an instructor through the directory, your details go to that one instructor only.

Do you provide driving lessons yourselves?

No. We are a directory only. All lessons, bookings and payments happen directly between you and the school or instructor.
